Frequently Asked Questions
How is Care Management Different That Home Care Agencies?
Home care agencies (caregivers) provide assistance with daily tasks like bathing, preparing meals, light housekeeping, and keep the person company. Aging Life Care Managers™ are professionals who oversee the big picture; medical coordination, long-term planning, and advocacy. We work as a team with home care agencies and other ancillary services that are needed.
Have You Supported Families Who Have Differing Opinions About Care Decisions?
Quite frequently! We provide unbiased education and guidance about the care decisions clients and their families face. While our primary responsibility is to advocate for the older adult, we also engage with family members to understand the client’s values, preferences, and life history. This collaborative approach helps ensure that care decisions honor the client’s wishes while reducing family conflict and stress.
Do You Receive Any Compensation or Incentives for Referring Clients to Facilities or Providers?
No, accepting compensation or incentives for referrals is strictly against our Code of Ethics and professional standards. Our company—and the professional organizations we belong to, including the Aging Life Care Association (ALCA), the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and the National Guardianship Association (NGA)—prohibit such practices.
Does Your Company Also Provide Home Care Services?
We do not directly provide home care services. However, we work closely with trusted home care companies as part of a collaborative team approach. While we are not the employer or “boss” of the caregivers, we act as an advocate for the client and a liaison for the family, ensuring that care aligns with the client’s needs and goals.
